Unocal names Chris Wright to exploration technology post
El Segundo, Calif., Jan. 22, 2001 - Unocal Corporation (NYSE: UCL) said today it has named Chris Wright as senior vice president, Global Exploration and Technology.
In this position, Wright will help to oversee the company's exploration and technology strategy and portfolio and will serve as a key adviser to Unocal's management committee on exploration, technology and growth strategy issues.
Wright, 53, previously served as LASMO plc's group managing director and director of new business. Prior to joining LASMO, Wright held business development positions at Mobil Oil and spent 20 years with British Petroleum where he held positions including chief executive for Frontier and International E&P, head of BP North America and worldwide chief geologist.
"This is an important year for our company's focused exploration strategy, and we are fortunate to have the benefit of Chris' global exploration and technology experience and judgment," said Chuck Williamson, Unocal's chief executive officer.
Wright succeeds John Ellice-Flint, who left Unocal in December to become chief executive officer and managing director of Santos Ltd., an Australian oil and gas producer. Wright holds a Bsc and Phd from the University of Bristol in the U.K. and has attended the Harvard Advanced Management Program. He will be based in Sugar Land, Texas.
