Unocal publishes updated corporate responsibility report
El Segundo, Calif., Feb. 12, 2002 - Unocal Corporation (NYSE: UCL) today said it has released its updated report on corporate responsibility, which provides a comprehensive assessment of the company's social, environmental and safety performance for 2000-2001.
"This report examines the health and safety of our workforce, the impact of our activities on the environment, and how Unocal as a business enterprise interacts with the socio-economic issues important to our many communities," said George A. Walker, Unocal's vice president for Public Policy, Health, Environment and Safety.
Walker said the report, entitled "Corporate Responsibility at Unocal: Putting Our Values Into Action," documents Unocal's work over the past two years to expand and refocus its corporate responsibility strategy and implement a variety of sustainable community and environmental programs.
"We also assessed our progress in meeting our guiding principles for doing business and our worldwide performance in relation to four core elements - workplace issues, environmental and safety considerations, community support and our role in society," Walker said.
The report outlines how Unocal is developing strong partnerships at the local, regional, national and international levels with diverse organizations and stakeholder groups. The company believes that such relationships will benefit the company's strategic business goals and benefit communities where Unocal has operations and investments.
"Our actions, as demonstrated in this report," Walker said, "show that Unocal employees are striving to meet our vision for the company: to improve the lives of people wherever we work."
