Unocal recover four bodies found Friday from helicopter crash
Sugar Land, Texas, March 27, 2004 - Unocal Corporation (NYSE: UCL) said today that the four bodies found Friday morning have been recovered and are at the Galveston County medical examiner's office for identification.
The bodies, found along with several pieces of wreckage, were located by search crews aboard the Midnight Wrangler on the seafloor of the search area. The wreckage was located by signal transmitted from the aircraft's safety system and observed by a camera-equipped, remote operated vehicle.
The cockpit voice recorder has been recovered and will be turned over to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and transported to Washington D.C.
Search efforts have continued for the two remaining passengers, as well as additional aircraft wreckage. The company's search efforts are being conducted in cooperation with the NTSB, which is investigating the crash, and with Era Aviation.
