Unocal's 76 Products Company, NASCAR Announce Introduction of New 76 NASCAR High Performance Motor Oil
Costa Mesa, Calif., Oct. 5, 1996 -- Unocal's 76 Products Company, whose motor oils have more NASCAR Winston Cup wins since 1970 than all other brands of motor oils combined, and NASCAR will now bring their winning combination to the average motorist through a new line of high performance lubricants.
Unocal 76's new NASCAR-branded motor oils were developed by the same lubricant engineers that developed motor oils for professional NASCAR drivers -- and during the Winston Cup season, more than half of those drivers have chosen 76 motor oils over all others.
Although Unocal 76 has provided high-performance motor oil products to NASCAR for more than 40 years, this new alliance marks the first time that the company has offered NASCAR approved products to the public in a branded retail aftermarket program. 76 NASCAR High Performance Motor Oil is the only motor oil to carry NASCAR's official automotive aftermarket brand name.
"This brand alliance is an exciting combination of advanced lubrication technology, product quality and aggressive marketing that is unique in the petroleum industry," said Lawrence M. Higby, president of 76 Products Company. "By distributing our 76 NASCAR High Performance Motor Oil through the automotive aftermarket, we can bring the most advanced technologies to consumers."
Added NASCAR Vice President George Pyne: "For millions of NASCAR fans, having access to this motor oil is an exciting way to 'be like the pros' in their choice of oil for their cars, light trucks and vans." AutoZone, Inc., which operates more than 1,300 do-it-yourself auto parts stores in 27 states, is the first retail chain to offer the new co-branded product. AutoZone provides automobile aftermarket products for consumer cars, light trucks and vans.
76 NASCAR High Performance Motor Oil meets or exceeds new American Petroleum Institute (API) standards for reduced volatility and improved cold flow, providing easy low-temperature starts and better wear protection.
Orange County-based 76 Products Company, the marketing, refining, product supply and transportation unit of Unocal Corporation, offers gasoline plus a variety of convenience products and services to customers through a network of approximately 1,300 branded Unocal 76 retail sites in the West and Hawaii. The company operates three California refineries with a crude oil processing capacity of 250,000 barrels per day.
The National Association of Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) is the sanctioning body that brings together the top teams and their drivers to race on a variety of speedways in motorsports' most successful competitions in terms of attendance and posted awards.
