Unocal's West Coast Agriproducts restructures under new Prodica name

Brea, Calif., Sept. 24, 1999 -- Unocal Corporation today said its West Coast Agricultural Products business group will be known as Prodica LLC, after the unit is reorganized into a wholly owned limited liability company. The change is effective Oct. 1.

The Agriproducts unit provides products and services to fertilizer dealers and growers throughout the western and southwestern United States, agricultural dealers and growers across Mexico, and industrial chemical customers throughout North America.

Prodica will have more than 10 major products and over 30 distribution centers. The company will have about 350 commercial customers that will resell Prodica's nitrogen-based products to growers and industrial chemical customers.

Prodica will maintain its headquarters in Brea, Calif. The new company's operations will include their primary fertilizer manufacturing plants located in Kennewick, Wash., and West Sacramento, Calif. These plants produce finished fertilizer products, including a family of value-added specialty fertilizers such as N-pHuric acid fertilizer, pHairway water treatment, AN 20%, CAN-17, GAN and UAN 32%.

Prodica will also manufacture and market industrial chemical products including nitric acid, urea, anhydrous ammonia, aqua ammonia and sulfuric acid.

The restructuring and name change is part of Unocal's move to convert its non-E&P operating units in the United States into subsidiary companies. Last year, Unocal's ammonia and urea fertilizer manufacturing facilities in Kenai, Alaska, were transferred into Alaska Nitrogen Products LLC, a wholly owned limited liability company.

No personnel changes will be made as a result of the Prodica name change and restructuring. Prodica representatives will continue to serve their existing customers, and the location of all company facilities will remain the same, including manufacturing plants, distribution terminals and field sales offices.

"In the search for a new name, we spent eight weeks evaluating the attributes of our organization that are most valuable to our customers," said Jay Yost, general manager of Prodica marketing, sales and distribution. "The name Prodica best captures the professionalism that the Unocal Agriproducts organization has stood for during the past 45 years. Time and again, our customers in both agricultural and industrial chemicals businesses have said our greatest strength is our people. They stand for professionalism, dependability, integrity, dedication and service, and we have grown and prospered over the years because of the relationships we've earned with our customers."
