celebrating the holidays offshore

2 min read | december 21, 2022

Hundreds of Chevron workers are spending the winter holidays hundreds of miles from their friends and families—or even dry land.

Like other essential workers such as doctors and police, our offshore employees are sacrificing time with loved ones to ensure critical services. In the case of our offshore crews in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico, the responsibility of meeting growing energy needs means working around the clock.

Nothing beats being home for the holidays, but Chevron tries to add a little magic to the season by making workers feel especially valued.

At our Tahiti Platform about 190 miles off the coast of New Orleans, we pull out several stops to make the season special. This includes holiday decorations, fine cuisine and festive games. Dinner options are extensive, ranging from deviled eggs and ham to lobster tails and snow crabs.

The evening normally concludes with a white elephant gift exchange.

“We try to keep workers’ morale up,” said Rudy Salomon, executive steward of Chevron’s Tahiti Platform. “They are giving their family time to make sure we have energy security. We want to recognize that important and selfless work.”
