exploration and production
We’re leaders in working in extremely difficult environments, and we have major operations in some of the world’s most important oil and gas regions. Our Upstream business combines innovation and the effective use of technology to maximize mature fields, discover new resources and meet the world’s growing demand for energy. Through targeted investments and a consistent focus on operational excellence, we are developing the next generation of legacy producers.
providing energy for progress
Exploration is essential to our business. Our focus areas are the deepwater U.S. Gulf of Mexico, offshore Western Australia, West Africa, and shale and tight resource plays in the United States, Canada and Argentina. In 2018, we plan to drill more than 25 exploration and appraisal wells worldwide. Our technological capabilities are constantly evolving to meet these new challenges and play a pivotal role in bringing new resource opportunities and proved reserves into production through major capital projects.
Our robust project portfolio is poised to bring significant new resources to global markets.
diverse assets and a global presence
Our portfolio spans across all forms of energy, and we have a presence in all of the key basins around the world. Exploring and producing in each of these regions offers exciting opportunities to meet tomorrow’s complex energy challenges.
Applying our heavy oil technologies, we aim to recover billions of barrels already discovered, yet historically beyond reach. After 50 years of pioneering in the field, our investment in advanced processing technologies has dramatically increased recoverable reserves.
We are a leader in developing new technologies to tap into the oil that lies deep beneath the ocean floor. In promising locations worldwide, we navigate uncertain weather conditions, frigid water and crushing pressure to conduct deepwater drilling and seismic activities and maintain our strong position in the world’s key oil-producing areas.
A cleaner-burning and efficient energy source, natural gas now accounts for about 22 percent of the world’s energy supply. And with natural gas resources on six continents, we are well positioned to meet escalating demand.
The world has enormous quantities of natural gas, but much of it is in areas far from where the gas is needed. We’re invested in every aspect of the production and safe transportation of liquefied natural gas so that it can reach the world’s fastest-growing markets.
For more than 135 years, Chevron has been developing some of the world’s most complex crude oil fields. Our extensive project portfolio provides the foundation for future growth.
Natural gas and crude oil from shale and tight rock are changing the global energy supply landscape. We’re developing new resources in shale/tight formations in the United States, Argentina and Canada.
