our technology companies scout for and evaluate emerging technologies

Horizontal drilling. Hydraulic fracturing. 3-D seismic. Enhanced oil recovery. Subsea/deepwater development. Catalytic cracking. The common thread? All of these innovative technologies started as great ideas.

At Chevron, we are constantly on the lookout for innovative technology – great ideas that will lead us to find and develop new resources. State-of-the-art innovations that improve efficiency and make our operations more cost-effective – in any business environment. Emerging technologies that will keep our employees, communities and environments safe, while ensuring reliable and secure energy resources well into the future.

Of course, some of our biggest ideas are born in-house. But we recognize the value of early-stage technologies developed outside of Chevron. Our advantage lies in identifying new technology and providers – from academia and government laboratories to entrepreneurs and startup companies – and in evaluating them for use in our operations. Our Chevron Technology Ventures company scouts for, evaluates, field-tests and, in some cases, takes equity in these technologies to add value to Chevron’s base business, enhance the way we deliver energy, and continue differentiating our performance through technology.
