The Aphrodite natural gas field is part of Chevron’s growing Eastern Mediterranean portfolio, a region where the company has a large and important resource position.

our work in cyprus

Aphrodite is a key part of our regional portfolio, and a significant resource for Cyprus.

exploration and discovery

Discovered in 2011, the Aphrodite gas field was the first discovery of its kind offshore Cyprus. Chevron holds a 35% operational interest in the field – located in Block 12 in the Republic of Cyprus’ Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), approximately 170 km southeast offshore.

development

In 2025, the Cypriot government and the Aphrodite joint venture partners – Chevron, Shell and NewMed Energy – agreed to a development and production plan for the field, which includes a floating production unit (FPU) in Cyprus’ Exclusive Economic Zone.

in the community

We’re proud to support Cyprus’ local communities through scholarships, contributions and environmental initiatives. 114,000 people have been impacted by community projects in Cyprus from 2023-2024.

Education programs

We have supported Frederick University’s School of Engineering to offer scholarships that empower local women to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Through additional scholarships granted to master’s students at the prestigious University of Cyprus, we nurture talent in key fields like energy, infrastructure and technology.

Entrepreneurship

Through the Academy of Women Entrepreneurs, we collaborate with the U.S. Embassy in Nicosia to support female entrepreneurship. We’ve equipped over 40 aspiring entrepreneurs with critical business knowledge, access to networks, and mentorship opportunities to help them launch or grow their businesses.

Environmental initiatives

Through the Tiganokinisi Caravan, we are sponsoring environmental education programs for children – transforming used cooking oil into biodiesel. Schools can collect and recycle their community’s used oil. Funds from the sale of the oil are returned to support school programs.
