our work in Kazakhstan

From oil and gas production to transportation and manufacturing, Chevron’s work in Kazakhstan exemplifies our contribution to responsible development in the region.

exploration and production

tengizchevroil

Through a 50% stake in our Tengizchevroil (TCO) partnership, we have played a key role in developing the Tengiz and Korolev oil fields. Tengiz is the world's deepest producing supergiant oil field, with the top of the reservoir approximately 13,000 feet (4,000 meters) below ground.

future growth project-wellhead pressure management project

In 2025, Tengizchevroil completed the Future Growth Project-Wellhead Pressure Management Project (FGP-WPMP), a major expansion of the Tengiz oilfield. FGP-WPMP is designed to increase crude oil production by 260,000 barrels per day at full capacity, with total Tengiz production reaching approximately one million barrels of oil equivalent per day.

karachaganak field

The Karachaganak Field is one of the world's largest oil and gas condensate reserves, with approximately 60 trillion cubic feet of gas and 13 billion barrels of oil and condensate. Chevron has an 18% non-operated working interest in the Karachaganak Petroleum Operating (KPO) joint venture – one of the largest gas producing ventures in Kazakhstan – which oversees the field’s expansion and development.

transportation and manufacturing

the CPC pipeline

Chevron is a non-operator with a minority 15% shareholder interest in the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC). At a length of 939 miles (1,511 km), the pipeline exports crude oil from the Tengiz Field to the Black Sea port of Novorossiysk, with 90% of the oil transported coming from Kazakhstan.

atyrau polyethylene pipe plant

Chevron operates the Atyrau Polyethylene Pipe Plant, which produces pipes for consumer and industrial use and is run entirely by Kazakhstani citizens. The plant brings new technology to Kazakhstan and supplies the country with products that were previously imported.

marketing and retail

Through our authorized distributor, Chevron markets lubricants, coolants and fuel treatments under the Texaco® brand for consumer, commercial and industrial use in Kazakhstan.

health, environment and safety

Protecting people and the environment is one of Chevron’s core values. Since 2000, TCO has invested over $3.2 billion in environmental protection activities in Kazakhstan. These investments have helped TCO achieve reductions in flaring, improve wastewater treatment, increase water reuse, and manage waste more safely.
